HOW TO MAKEPROPER FRENCH PRESS COFFEE AT HOME

FRENCH PRESS

Brewing method:

This is one of the easiest coffee brewing methods. Ground coffee is flooded with hot water. After about 4 minutes, the coffee grounds are separated from the brew and hey presto! Coffee is ready to drink.

Drink type:

Black coffee, aromatic and full of flavor.

HOW TO DO IT BETTER

GRIND

French Press likes thicker grinding because coffee has quite a long contact with standing water - around 4:00 minutes. Grinding finely makes the coffee too bitter.

COFFEE TO WATER RATIO

1:17 (for mild coffee) - (17 parts of water to 1 part of coffee) 1:15 (for well-balanced coffee) 1:10 (for strong coffee)

DURATION

5 minutes

QUALITY

Make sure you use clean water that is free of unpleasant tastes and smells. If you didn't drink a glass of this water, don't make coffee with it.

HARDNESS

To extract the best aromas from coffee you need water rich in calcium and magnesium in particular. The amount of these two minerals dissolved in water is a measure of hardness.

TEMPERATURE

93-96°C

MILK, CREAM

Chemex coffee tastes best as pure black. If you have nice beans, there is no need for milk anyway as it would hide some flavours.

SUGAR, SWEETENERS

Do not put sugar in this coffee.

Coffee should be freshly ground, because after 1 hour it loses most of its flavor.

ProTip #2

Do not grind coffee too finely, because it brews too quickly and will be too bitter. It's best to grind it to a thickness of crystal sugar or just slightly thicker.

ProTip #3

Water for Coffee should not be hotter than 94 degrees. Never pour coffee over with boiling water!
